K9 Vet's Day: Dogs Save Lives in the Field and On the Home Front
March 13th is National K9 Veteran Day, and represents the birthday of the U.S. Army Canine Corps. The first military service dogs graduated from the Dogs for Defense program in 1942, following the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Today, "war dogs" are primarily used to help our military sniff out Improvised Explosive Devices (IED’s), and to provide emotional support for those stationed in war zones.

July 4th: The Truth About the Men Who Signed the Declaration of Independence
Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and were tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships during the Revolutionary War.

Honoring Vietnam Veterans through the Yearly Memorial Day Writers Project
It began, as so many inspired ideas do, in a conversation over a cup of coffee. Mike McDonell and Clyde Wray had been introduced by a mutual friend. Both were then living in Washington, D.C. Both were writers. Both had served in Vietnam, McDonell as an officer with the 11th Marines in 1967-68, and Wray, during the same period, as a rifleman with the Army’s 199th Light Infantry Brigade.
