Scott's View: Remembering our Korean War Veterans

Scott Higgins

For decades, our military efforts in Korea 70 years ago were called the “forgotten war,” and many times mistakenly called “a conflict.” Well next week, July 27, is a time for all of us to remember the remarkable sacrifice our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines put forth during the Korean War.

In all, 1.8 million Americans protected our Korean allies against North Korea and The People’s Republic of China in over 3 years of ruthless battle. On July 27, 1953, an armistice was signed. And since that date, we mark the event each year with hopes for a permanent peace in the area.

“We take this opportunity to honor, remember, and pay tribute to the Korean War veterans who fought to defend those universal values and freedoms that the people of South Korea enjoy today,” President Biden said in a statement last year.

May we never forget those who served, and especially the nearly 40,000 Americans who died, and over 100,000 who were wounded.
