Scott’s View: Two Navy Veterans Lead the Space Program Back to the Moon

The U.S. space program has been defined by the role of military veterans, ever since the Mercury Astronauts of the 1960s, and throughout the Space Shuttle Era which ended early this decade.

With the birth of the Artemis program, that pattern continues. NASA plans to land men and women on the moon again after a 50 year hiatus, and will start with sending the Artemis II crew to circle the moon and back. With two Navy veterans serving as Commander and pilot, the new program is in good hands!

The name Artemis is historically significant. According to Greek mythology, she was the twin sister of Apollo, who was named for our nation’s first moon landing missions of the 1960s and 1970s.
