Scott's View: National Military Appreciation Month & Memorial Day 2025: A Guide for Those Who Serve

scott

We want to take this time to express our deepest gratitude for your service, dedication, and sacrifice. Beyond the well-deserved recognition on Veterans Day in November, the next two months offer a special opportunity for our nation to come together and honor the incredible contributions of the U.S. Armed Forces – that's you, our active duty members, our veterans, and your resilient families.

May is National Military Appreciation Month, a designation by Congress that underscores the importance of acknowledging your achievements and commitment. Throughout this month, you'll see a focus on various aspects of your service, leading up to the solemn observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, 2025 – a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy.

May is also the Month of the Military Caregiver.

As such, this month is a powerful reminder that your service, whether past or present, is deeply valued. We remember those who have defended our freedom, and we stand in unity to honor you all.

Keep an eye out during May for special days and events that recognize different parts of our military community:

  • The month kicks off with Loyalty Day, Silver Star Service Banner Day - honoring our wounded heroes - and the National Day of Prayer next Thursday, May 1, 2025.

  • The following week, VE Day - recognizes the end of World War II combat in Europe - and Children of Fallen Patriots Day both occur on Thursday, May 8, and Military Spouse Appreciation Day - thanking our incredible spouses - is on Friday, May 9.

  • And the third and fourth weeks of May include Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 17, Fleet Week comes to New York City May 23-26, and finally we have Memorial Day on Monday, May 26.

The appreciation continues into June, with celebrations like the U.S. Army’s birthday and Flag Day, building towards the patriotic spirit of Independence Day weekend.

What is WeSalute Doing for Military Appreciation Month?

During these months, WeSalute, along with our partners in the WeSalute Marketplace, are committed to ensuring you and your families feel the appreciation you so rightly deserve. We are working to create meaningful ways for that gratitude to be expressed with new offers that honor your service. So make the WeSalute Marketplace your first resource to save.

Our WeSalute Marketplace team has also been hard at work researching other stores, e-tailers, and restaurants who have offered to recognize your service during National Military Appreciation Month and Memorial Day Weekend. You’ll be able to show your WeSalute+ ID Card at many of these locations, so check our guide often, as we will be adding to it each day throughout the month of May.
