Scott’s View: U.S. Army Birthday and Flag Day for 2024

As an Army vet, I was fascinated by today’s Cover Story about the Army Song. Sometimes, we just have to stop and marvel at the rich history that makes our military so special. Fun facts, too!

Timely reading for today, as we recognize the 259th birthday of our U.S. Army.

Today’s date is also symbolic because on June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution stating that “the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white,” and that “the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” Thirteen was the number of states at the time. Hence the stars and bars of the American flag was born. So be proud to show your colors today, and have a Happy Flag Day!

And to all the fathers out there, we wish you a wonderful Father’s Day this Sunday, a special day when your family can celebrate YOU and what you mean to them!
