Benefit News: Statement by VA Secretary David J. Shulkin - Passage of the Forever GI Bill

Congress has spoken with a strong voice in support of our Veterans this afternoon. The Forever GI Bill expands the success our Veterans have had with the GI Bill providing opportunities that otherwise would not be possible.

In particular, it restores benefits to Veterans who were impacted by school closures since 2015 and has special benefits for our reservists, surviving dependents, and Purple Heart recipients. This nation is stronger when our Veterans are studying and working next to their civilian counterparts. Passage of this bill is a win for Veterans and their families.

Eighty Years On: Honoring the Legacy of WWII and the Enduring Mission of WeSalute

While Victory in Europe (V-E Day) was observed on May 8, 2025, the formal end of WWII, known as Victory over Japan (V-J Day), is recognized on August 15 - the formal surrender by Japan to Allied forces -, and once again on September 2 when the surrender documents were officially signed aboard the USS Missouri.

VA Delivers Stability to Long-Serving Caregivers and Veterans Through 2028

For thousands of families who have dedicated years to caring for their veterans, a significant burden has been lifted. On July 18th, The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced an extension of its Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC), ensuring continued support for "legacy" veterans and their caregivers well into 2028.
