Today, September 20, we recognize National POW/MIA Recognition Day. For those veterans touched by war, either through first-hand experience or through the lives of friends and family, one of the most heart-wrenching emotions comes from the guilt of those unaccounted for or taken prisoner.
National POW/MIA Recognition Day was established in 1979 through a proclamation signed by President Jimmy Carter. Since then, each subsequent president has issued an annual proclamation commemorating the third Friday in September to remember these heroic Americans. |  | Featured this week | |
James Earl Jones, a pioneer for Black actors, and a friend of WeSalute, passed away on September 9th 2024. James’ hard work and determination to prove his worth as an actor, earned him coveted awards reflecting the passion he had for his career. In 2011, he achieved “EGOT” status for winning an Emmy, Golden Globe, Oscar, and Tony award. Amongst many of his peers, Jones served in the military following the Korean War.
