Scott's View: Memorial Day is a Time for Remembrance

Scott Higgins

For most Americans, Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff of summer travel and fun, coupled with a major shopping holiday. For Veterans Advantage members like you, however, it means so much more.

Memorial Day is the culmination of Military Appreciation Month. Over the course of the month, we marked moments to recognize all the armed forces, military spouses and brats, caregivers for those in need, and finally this coming Monday we recognize those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today’s feature article, for instance, looks at the history of the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. It is one of our nation’s most solemn shrines for the deceased, and an emotional and spiritual reminder of their dedication to our nation and freedoms. Our staff writer of this piece, Taylor Gordon, has first-hand knowledge of Arlington, as the sister of an Afghanistan War veteran who is laid to rest there.

With this in mind, please remember our Nation’s Moment of Remembrance for Memorial Day.  At 3 pm local time MONDAY, please pause for one minute during our National Moment of Remembrance. We honor those before us who have perished.
