Vet News: Retired Marine Corps General Bob Hollingsworth named "HeroVet"

For His Commitment to Preserve Employment Rights of National Guard and Reservists

Veterans Advantage® Honors Department of Defense Official with Hero Veteran Award

Veterans Advantage Inc., a nationwide membership program providing private-sector benefits for U.S. Veterans, National Guard, Reservists, active duty military and their families, announced that Retired General Bob Hollingsworth, a leading U.S. Department of Defense official charged with preserving the employment rights of National Guardsmen and Reservists, was named a "HeroVet," an honor that appears on www.Veteransadvantage.com.

"We at Veterans Advantage celebrate HeroVets as great Americans. Having given service in our military, Veterans like General Hollingsworth distinguish themselves by their continued contributions to our society, said Scott Higgins, CEO of Veterans Advantage.

As described in a biography featured on Veteransadvantage.com, Hollingsworth, a 38-year Veteran of the U.S. military, was appointed by President Bush in 2001 as Executive Director of the National Committee for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).

"The General served his country with distinction as a Marine. We now salute his continued service and commitment to this key DOD initiative at ESGR," added Higgins. "He is an unsung hero in these uncertain times for our country, as he tirelessly pursues this important work with the help of a dedicated, first-rate staff and volunteer network."

"What we’re doing is helping people’s lives," Hollingsworth said. "God - and the President - put me here so I can influence attitudes and support the young men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line so we can live free."

ESGR is providing important support for the National Guard and Reservists among the country’s employers. With 1.3 million members, The Guard and Reserve now represent 48% of U.S. fighting forces. To date, more than 168,000 of these "citizen soldiers" have been called to active duty, leaving their families and their careers "on hold" to serve.

Among his military accomplishments, Hollingsworth served as Commanding General of the Marine Corps Reserve Support Command; Deputy Commander of the Joint Force, Southwest Asia; and Vice Commander of Marine Forces, Pacific. In 1999, after 38 years of Reserve and active duty, Bob Hollingsworth retired as a Major General.
