Patriots Landing

Addressing Growing Demands, Patriots Landing Offers Retired Military Personnel Attractive Life in Serene Pacific Northwest

Retired military personnel from all uniformed services are being offered one more assignment: the opportunity to live in a $35,000,000 senior community dedicated to people sharing the same professional experience of service to their country. Opening in June of this year, military retirees of all ranks will be changing their address to Patriots Landing, 1600 Marshall Circle in DuPont, Washington, where common backgrounds and similar lifestyles will be the order of the day.

Unique in the United States, and literally absent in the Northwest, Patriots Landing provides retired military seniors with an opportunity to live in comfortable, high-end housing without a buy-in fee. Throughout development and construction, feedback has been gathered from an advisory board comprised of retired military career Veterans and their spouses. Fulfilling an important need, Patriots Landing already has more than 100 deposits from future residents awaiting move-in. While prior military service in the area has lured many retirement age service personnel back to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, the location is also attractive due to its close proximity to the services provided by Ft. Lewis, Madigan Army Medical Center, McChord Airbase and Naval Base Kitsap.

Lieutenant General Bill Harrison and his wife Jo will eventually become residents of Patriots Landing. Retiring this year from his position on the Lakewood City Council, General Harrison finds the idea of living with other former military personnel and their families very compelling. "Thirty-seven years of service has clearly shown me that people in the military service have their own special culture. We work, train, live and die together. It isn’t surprising that we find strength and contentment by being together in the Golden Years. The camaraderie we share is very special."

Patriots Landing stands ready to meet the needs of active individuals, enabling residents to lead a physically active life through a wide range of amenities and programs. This includes a Fitness Center with wellness programs, a heated all-season pool and Jacuzzi, his and her spas, and is complimented by a nearby extensive network of scenic walking trails. Additionally, an on-site putting green gives golfers a practice spot to use before heading out to the adjacent Ft. Lewis and Northwest Landing Golf Courses. Activity and craft rooms, a library, an area with resident computer access, a game room with a billiard and game tables, transportation services, and an elegant dining room plus full service club bar complete the picture.

Joan Baird is another future Patriots Landing resident. Along with her late husband, also a military veteran, the Bairds moved to the DuPont area because of their love for the Northwest. Although retired after a 44-year career that included serving as a nurse in the Army Nursing Corp and service with Washington State, her life in DuPont, keeps her operating at full speed including her position on the DuPont City Council. "Patriots Landing has answered all of my living needs, now and in the future," says Baird. "Although I’m in great physical condition, it’s comforting to live in a community of peers and have services available when I need them."

Patriots Landing is situated on a sprawling 16-acre site with a 150 unit, 150,000 square foot main building, complimented by 25 charming freestanding 1,600+ square foot cottages with adjoining garages. The 3-story main structure is divided into 85 independent apartments, 50 assisted living apartments, and a 15-unit wing dedicated to individuals with memory disorders. Future plans include the addition of an 80-bed skilled nursing facility to complete the continuum of care. Although marketed primarily to military retirees, all seniors are welcome at Patriots Landing.

The concept of a retirement campus for retired military personnel has long been a dream of CAREAGE. Founded in 1962, the nationally known company based in Gig Harbor, WA, specializes in senior housing and healthcare development, construction, and management and has built 400+ senior living and healthcare facilities.
