Because of the pervasiveness of hearing loss among Veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is recognizing October as Audiology Awareness Month by highlighting important VA research on the subject and advances made in treating Veterans with hearing loss.

The VA Caregiver Support Program supports the-often unsung heroes of wounded or ill Veterans – the ones who take care of them. Announcement of the partnerships, made during a summit co-hosted by VA and the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. The daylong event, Empowering Hidden Heroes: Pathways to InnoVAtion, attracted 400 leaders from government, the non-profit sector, private industry, academic and stakeholders from the Veteran and caregiver community.

Debakey VA Medical Center. Once complete, this will be the first VA in the nation to have three Fisher Houses.  Combined with the other two homes, up to 61 families can stay at a Fisher House free of charge on any given night, allowing them to be close to their loved ones at the most stressful time – during hospitalization at the Houston VA Medical Center.

McDonald today announced that Veterans enrolled in the program will be able to continue receiving care closer to home. Taking advantage of options available under the Veterans Choice Program, such as the “unusual or excessive burden provision” and Provider Agreements, Veterans receiving care under Project ARCH will continue care without interruption when the pilot program ends August 7.

veterans advantage Military & Veterans News Benefits News: American Red Cross Opens New Center of Excellence to Help Military Families and Veterans Today, the American Red Cross is transforming its emergency communication site in Springfield, Mass., into a Center of Excellence for Financial Assistance where dedicated staff will focus on connecting military families and veterans to financial assistance through military aid societies.  The Center will also explore partnerships with national community leaders such as Points of Light and Bank of America to expand financial support services and resiliency with the Financial Opportunity Corps.
