NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Veterans Advantage is proud to announce its continued leadership as presenting sponsor of this year's Veterans Week NYC, with the VetRewards card the official card of the event. The VetRewards card offers exclusive savings from Veterans Week NYC sponsors such as Avis & Budget,1800Flowers, and Verizon Fios, as well as other Veterans Advantage partners such as United Airlines, JetBlue, Ford and CVS/pharmacy.

For its fifth consecutive year, Veterans Week NYC celebrates military vets and their families with a series of symposiums, seminars, benefit galas, job fairs, comedy shows, concerts, and parades.

These events unite the veterans community, military-service organizations, Corporate America, and the general public to raise awareness of veterans issues, provide resources for returning servicemen and women, and honor the sacrifices of our vets.

"We are honored to continue to provide the VetRewards Card as our official event card," Gerry Bryne, a Marine vet in Vietnam and vice chairman of the Penske Media Corporation, said. "Veterans Advantage's premier coalition of benefit partners brings the best of Corporate America to the grand stage of New York City and its community of 250,000 Veterans."

In addition to serving on the Veterans Advantage Advisory Board, Byrne co-chairs Veterans Week NYC, along with Veterans Advantage Founder and CEO Scott Higgins, Medal-of-Honor recipient Paul W. Bucha, Chairman of the Fisher House Foundation Ken Fisher, and IAVA Chairman Emeritus Ed Vick.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg officially proclaimed the week of November 11th as Veterans Week NYC in 2012. Veterans Advantage CEO and founder Scott Higgins worked with fellow veterans and organizations in the NYC area to make the event a reality.

"Through the tireless efforts of the Veterans Week NYC team, we are bringing memorable events to the military, veterans, and their families in our nation's largest local community," Higgins said. "Thanks to the substantial support of our sponsors, we are also able to provide great savings to those who have served and continue to serve with free Veterans Advantage for the holiday period."

Veterans Week NYC starts today with The Bob Woodruff Foundation's "Stand Up for Heroes" at Madison Square Garden, and Veterans on Wall Street "VOWS" Annual Veteran Employment Symposium.

New York City's 97th Annual Veterans Day Parade will occur on Friday, November 11th. The parade boasts over 250 groups and 20,000 participants each year.

After the parade on November 11, 2016, Veterans Advantage will present a free IMAX screening of "Sully," which tells the story of American-pilot and veteran Captain Chesley Sullenberger, who became a hero after landing a plane on the Hudson River.

On November 13th, Northrop Grumman and Avis Budget Group present "Heroes Meet Heroes" at the New York Athletic Club, bringing together U.S. Olympians from Rio and wounded veterans and their families. Donna de Varona, two-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming, and Paul W. Bucha, West Point graduate and Medal of Honor recipient, will host the event. Both de Varona and Bucha are Advisory Board members of Veterans Advantage. Cedric Jones, former NFL star and Executive Director of the NYAC will also be honored.

Higgins also thanked Veterans Advantage coalition partners Avis, Budget Imax, Northrop Grumman, 1800Flowers, TOMS and Verizon Fios for their sponsorship that helps make Veterans Week NYC possible.
