Scott’s View: Remembering Army Veteran Jackie Robinson’s 75th Anniversary

Scott's View

We’re marking the end of Black History Month with an important anniversary announcement. This April will mark the 75th Anniversary that this week’s HeroVet, Jackie Robinson, broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball. Robinson went on to become one of the greatest players of all time, inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, an All-Star for 6 consecutive seasons and awarded the Most Valuable Player in 1949.

We hope the current labor disputes between players and owners don’t delay the start of the season because April 15 is marked as “Jackie Robinson” day, the anniversary of his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

Robinson, an Army veteran, posthumously was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of his achievements on and off the field, and the only player in MLB history to have his uniform number retired by all teams. May the memories of “42” live on in our hearts for this great athlete, military veteran, and courageous man.
