Eighty Years On: Honoring the Legacy of WWII and the Enduring Mission of WeSalute
Scott Higgins, WeSalute Co-founder & Co-CEO

It's almost time to commemorate a monumental moment in history: the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. While Victory in Europe (V-E Day) was observed on May 8, 2025, the formal end of WWII, known as Victory over Japan (V-J Day), is recognized on August 15 - the formal surrender by Japan to Allied forces -, and once again on September 2 when the surrender documents were officially signed aboard the USS Missouri.
This year, as we approach September, we have a unique opportunity to reflect on the immense sacrifices made by the "Greatest Generation" who secured peace and freedom for the world.
Eighty years ago, the global community emerged from the most devastating conflict in human history. The courage, resilience, and unwavering spirit of those who served our country, and indeed, saved the world, laid the foundation for the international order we know today. From the beaches of Normandy to the islands of the Pacific, their bravery in the face of unimaginable challenges deserves our eternal gratitude and recognition.
How WeSalute Honors Our Nation’s World War II Veterans
In this spirit, WeSalute (formerly Veterans Advantage) stands as an ongoing model of appreciation for those who served. For over 25 years, WeSalute has been dedicated to honoring the U.S. military community — active duty personnel, veterans, and their families — by providing meaningful respect, recognition, and rewards. Our mission is rooted in the belief that those who have sacrificed so much deserve a "Real Thank You®" every day.
As we approach this significant 80th anniversary, WeSalute's commitment to supporting veterans becomes even more poignant. It's a time to specifically recognize those who fought in World War II — a generation whose numbers are dwindling, making it all the more crucial to preserve their stories and ensure their legacy endures. By honoring their service, WeSalute helps to educate younger generations about the profound influence of WWII on shaping the modern world and the enduring value of freedom and peace.
This is the very reason we all live and thrive in this nation, freely, today.
Let us join in this commemoration by remembering the incredible courage of those who served 80 years ago and by continuing to show our appreciation for all veterans who have answered the call to protect our nation and our values.
