Scott’s View: Hall of Famer Derek Jeter’s Military Family

Scott's View

It was no surprise that Derek Jeter was voted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame last week, but did you know both of his parents are U.S. Army veterans!

My favorite story about Derek is how his parents had him sign a “code of conduct” while he was a youngster filled with important messages drawn from their military experience. Jeter’s parents instilled in him a tireless work ethic, discipline, humility, and a great spirit of teamwork.

A five-time world champion and 14-time All-Star, Derek Jeter was named Rookie of the Year in 1996 and won five Gold Gloves. He won nearly 100 percent of the vote for induction into the Hall of Fame, which will occur on July 26, 2020, in Cooperstown, NY.

You don’t have to be a Yankee fan to appreciate Jeter’s accomplishments. Today, we acknowledge his extraordinary talent and contribution to his team’s success and the game of baseball. , We also recognize the significant influence of his parents who proudly served our country, and who guided and nourished this amazing athlete.
